Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World

Based on the award-winning children’s book of the same title written and illustrated by Laurence Anholt. (Artwork by Laurence Anholt.)

This 35-minute opera tells the real-life story of Mariana Morillo Safa, a young girl living in Mexico City and her friendship with famed painter, Frida Kahlo, who has her portrait painted by Ms. Kahlo. At first, Mariana is nervous about meeting Frida. But she quickly befriends Frida and learns two important lessons in the process: that art can happen anywhere and how important it is to be brave even when you feel scared.
