Mexican-American tenor Daniel Esteban Lugo received his BM in Vocal Performance (‘20) from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Daniel has since performed with opera companies such as Des Moines Metro Opera, Tri-Cities Opera, Seagle Festival, and Virginia Opera. His repertoire spans from Count Almaviva in Barber of Seville to Timothy Laughlin in Fellow Travelers. Most recently, he performed The New Yorker/Frick in Offenbach’s La Vie Parisienne and in the ensemble of She Loves Me with Opera Saratoga.
His artistic emphasis is on bel canto style and Rossini opera in particular while also maintaining an interest in new music/opera. Studying works such as In a Grove by Christopher Cerrone have made a lasting impression because of the integration of electronic music in modern day instrumentation.
Daniel is ecstatic to be returning for a second year as a Herndon Foundation Emerging Artist. This fall, he will be featured in Virginia Opera’s chamber work Variations Series, the chorus of La cenerentola and will cover Don Ramiro. In the winter he will role-study Wilson in Jake Heggie’s Intelligence and take on the role of the Messenger in Aida.
