Norfolk, VA — Virginia Opera is thrilled to announce significant updates to its Student Night @ the Opera program. The reimagined program is designed to enhance the accessibility and community impact of live opera experiences for students, families, and community groups across the Greater Hampton Roads region.
Student Night @ the Opera is a cornerstone of Virginia Opera’s educational and outreach initiatives, providing an exclusive opportunity for elementary, middle, high school, and college students to attend the final dress rehearsals of the company’s acclaimed productions at the Harrison Opera House. The program allows students to experience a live opera performance at the Harrison Opera House at a fraction of the regular ticket price. For many students this program can be their first of many experiences with the performing arts.
What’s New?
The updated Student Night @ the Opera program now invites not only students and their families but also schools, homeschools, and community-based organizations to participate in these enriching cultural events. By broadening the program’s reach, Virginia Opera aims to make opera accessible to a wider audience, ensuring that more young people have the opportunity to experience the magic of live opera.
The program now also allows for attendance through a suggested donation of $10 per person. Student and community groups can “pay what you wish” for this experience, allowing for greater accessibility to the program.

“We’re excited to see Student Night @ the Opera grow and evolve,” said Karen T. Federing, Virginia Opera’s Director of Residency Programs. “By inviting a broader range of community members, we hope to inspire the next generation of opera lovers and make opera a more integral part of our community’s cultural fabric.”
