Had a wonderful Saturday at the Virginia Beach Schools Back-to-School Care Fair visiting with parents, families and kids of all ages at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. We talked with at least 450 people about the Opera and its offerings this season, both at the Harrison Opera House and in other community or school settings. It was such a treat to have kids try on a variety of actual costume pieces, including blouses, hats and masks and learn about the many different kinds of jobs and people it takes to create our productions. We hope to see many of them when we’re performing out in the Hampton Roads community and at the Harrison Opera House! Thanks again to the City of Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission, Dominion Energy and Altria for helping to fund this appearance!
So appreciative of the comments from some of the folks there:
“We think that [Student Night at the Opera] is an extraordinary opportunity for kids to explore culture. We are very lucky with such a program. It is a very smart way to open their minds.”
“We thank you for the initiative and giving them a chance to become the beautiful people they’re meant to be.”
