Fully renovated and restored, the historic Carpenter Theatre at Dominion Energy Center is open and alive with performing arts! State-of-the-art lighting and world-class acoustics will attract both audiences and entertainers from around the corner, and around the world, filling the stage with opera, dancing, singing, symphonies, concerts, plays and even Broadway shows. Upon entering the refurbished Carpenter Theatre – complete with nearly 1800 seats – audiences will enjoy newly installed fiber optic stars twinkling overhead in the repainted midnight sky ceiling, one of the many preserved and enhanced elements of John Eberson’s original theater design. The Carpenter Theatre celebrated its 80th birthday last year and what better way to commemorate this milestone than to welcome audiences back to this fun-filled, enchanting Downtown Richmond landmark.

How To Purchase Tickets
Virginia Opera Performances Only
Tickets may be purchased online at Etix or by telephone through Etix at 1.800.514.3849. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Altria Theater Box Office at 6 N. Laurel Street Monday-Friday, 10 am-2 pm, or the Dominion Energy Center 2 hours prior to the performance. Virginia Opera subscribers and donors may purchase tickets by calling the Virginia Opera Box Office at 1.866.673.7282.

Virginia Opera accepts MasterCard, Visa and American Express. We also accept cash and personal checks drawn on a local bank.

Full-service bars are available for your convenience on the Lower and Balcony levels. A variety of snacks are available on the Lower and Balcony levels.
Restrooms
Restrooms are located on all lobby levels. Upon leaving the theater, all restrooms are on the left.
Elevators
Elevators serving all seating levels are located next to the restrooms.
Electronic Devices
Cameras and recording equipment are strictly prohibited in the theater. Patrons with paging devices or cellular phones must set them on vibrate mode or check them with the house manager, who will contact them in the event they are paged. Patrons are also asked to turn off the beepers on their wristwatches prior to entering the theater.
Children
Virginia Opera reserves the right to deny admission to children under the age of five. All children, regardless of age, must have a ticket to enter the theater.
Parking
The Dominion Energy Center is located in downtown Richmond, between 6th and 7th Streets, and Broad and Grace Streets. The Carpenter Theatre entrance is at the corner of 6th Street and Grace Street.

Wheelchair Accessibility
The Dominion Energy Center is in compliance with the Americans for Disabilities Act. Wheelchair-accessible seats are available for purchase for all performances. Patrons requiring wheelchair-accessible seating must make advance reservations with the box office in order for us to provide proper accommodation before the wheelchair-accessible seating sells out. For information or assistance, please call the box office at 757.623.1223 prior to the performance, or see the house manager during performances.
Late Arrivals
In consideration of others, latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the house manager. The theater opens one half-hour before curtain time. Unless otherwise noted, Friday evening performances begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday matinees begin at 2:30 p.m. Please make every effort to arrive in ample time to be seated prior to curtain.
