Dragon’s Breath
Music by Evan Mack, Libretto by Joshua McGuire
Commissioned by Samford University School of the Arts
By arrangement with the composer and librettist.
Dragon’s Breath is an interactive, hour-long, educational opera that teaches children the importance of empathy and self-love.
Join Alan as he navigates his emotions on a journey into an imaginary land. Along the way, he battles his anger, which is personified by a dragon. His encounters offer insight into self-expression and how to positively interact with others and deal with big feelings.
Commissioned by Samford University School of the Arts in 2023, Dragon’s Breath has been used as a tool to help children and adults discuss emotions.
Dragon’s Breath is ideal for children in grades K-5 (ages 5-11), but it is excellent for all ages.
Dragon’s Breath will travel throughout Virginia in January and February 2026. Secure your performance today! For pricing, scheduling, and for answers to any questions, please contact education@vaopera.org.
