Nora Winsler (www.norawinsler.com) is a stage director of opera and theater based in New York City. A Virginia native, Nora’s first ever introduction to opera was at Virginia Opera in 2005 when her parents took her to see Faust. While she has been in the audience for many Virginia Opera performances since then, more recently she’s been in the theater as the resident Assistant Stage Director, a position she held for both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. After touring seven VOA productions over the past two years and directing their 2022 outreach show, Nora makes her mainstage directorial debut at a company she knows and loves deeply.
Previously, Nora has worked at The Glimmerglass Festival, Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera Columbus, Opera North, Manhattan School of Music, and The Prototype Festival. Recent directing credits include All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 (Opera North) Extraordinary Women (Opera North) and Hänsel und Gretel (Luray Opera). Recent assistant directing credits include Carmen (Des Moines Metro Opera), Tenor Overboard (The Glimmerglass Festival) and La Traviata (Virginia Opera). Nora holds a Bachelor of Music degree from James Madison University (Class of 2019).
