Mary Bauer

Mary Bauer has served as the Executive Director of the ACLU of Virginia since June of 2021. Prior to this position, she served as Executive Director of the Legal Aid Justice Center (LAJC) in Charlottesville Virginia for five years. She also served as Director of Advocacy at LAJC and served as the Deputy Legal Director and Legal Director of the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama.

Mary’s legal career began as a Skadden Fellow representing migrant farmworkers in Virginia. She has been a civil rights lawyer for over thirty years and has litigated a wide range of cases across the country. An expert on immigrants’ rights, she has testified before Congress on multiple occasions and has written several groundbreaking reports.

Mary is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia School of Law.
