Joachim Schamberger

Joachim Schamberger has gained great acclaim as an international stage director and video designer. His productions have appeared in the United States, Germany, Italy, France, Czech Republic, Brazil, Norway, Israel, Japan and China. Recent productions include Carmen with Chicago Opera Theater, and both Verdi’s Il Trovatore and Strauss’s Die Fledermaus with Central City Opera.

In addition to directing, Schamberger is an avid opera educator.  He is currently the Director of Opera at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University where he produced their first opera film miniseries Orfeo remote. He also serves on the faculty at many international young artist festivals and was previously the Visiting Professor of Opera at DePauw University.

A native of Germany Schamberger has loved and studied Wagner’s Ring since childhood. He is a graduate of the Musikhochschule in Würzburg, the Hochschule für Musik in Mannheim, and the Merola Opera Program of the San Francisco Opera.
