Cuban-American tenor, Fran Daniel Laucerica, has been praised for his clarity and agility and is a versatile musician, excelling in both operatic and concert repertoire. This summer, he is a member of Glimmerglass Festival’s 2022 Young Artist Program, where he is performing the role of Dante in the premiere of Tenor Overboard and covering the tenor roles in Taking Up Serpents and the premiere of Holy Ground. Laucerica was also a 2021-22 Resident Artist with Toledo Opera, performing the roles of Count Almaviva in a touring production of The Barber of Seville, Ferrando in a Resident Artist production of Cosí fan tutte, and Gastone in La Traviata.
Mr. Laucerica’s 2020-21 highlights included virtual productions of Felix Jarrar’s song cycle, The Ulster County Songbook, and Tony Manfredonia’s Ghost Variations with Thompson Street Opera. 2021 also saw his return as a Studio Artist to Wolf Trap Opera, where he covered the roles of Adolfo Pirelli in Sweeney Todd, Comte Barigoule in Viardot’s Cendrillon, and Satyavān in Sāvitri. In the fall of 2021, Mr. Laucerica joined Seaglass Theater Company to perform scenes from Les pêcheurs de perles and Arrieta’s Marina.
Amidst the shutdown, Mr. Laucerica was fortunate to attend his first summer at Wolf Trap Opera where he was originally meant to cover the role of Toni Reischmann in Henze’s Elegy for Young Lovers before production cancellations, but ultimately performed scenes from Billy Budd and Fellow Travelers as The Novice and Timothy Laughlin respectively. Mr. Laucerica’s other recent credits include the roles of Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Miguelín in the premiere of Omar Najmi’s chamber opera, En la ardiente oscuridad, the role of 2nd Seigneur in Odyssey Opera’s Henry VIII, The Vain Man and The Snake in NEMPAC Opera’s production of The Little Prince by Rachel Portman, and The Magician in The Consul by Gian Carlo Menotti with Boston Conservatory.
Additional credits include covering the roles of Chevalier de la Force in Dialogues des Carmélites at the Boston Conservatory, Peter Quint in Turn of the Screw with Chicago Summer Opera, and Don Ottavio in NEMPAC Opera’s production of Don Giovanni, as well as performing the roles of Reverend Samuel Parris in Robert Ward’s The Crucible, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and the title role in Albert Herring.
In concert, Mr. Laucerica has had the opportunity to perform as a soloist in a wide variety of works, including Cantata BWV 12 by Bach, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Handel’s Messiah, and Adolphus Hailstork’s cantata, I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes. Stemming from the passion for “new music” that he discovered during his time at Northwestern University, Laucerica has also been fortunate enough to premiere several works and perform as a soloist for world premieres of Samuel Carl Adams’ Light Readings with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra MusicNOW initiative and David Lang’s a house with the Bienen Contemporary Vocal Ensemble.
Mr. Laucerica is a recent Encouragement Award Winner in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, as well as a semi-finalist in the SAS Performing Arts, Camerata Bardi and Music International Grand Prix competitions. He graduated from the Boston Conservatory with a Master’s in Opera Performance and a Bachelor’s from Northwestern University.
