Virginia Opera announces Katherine Whyte will replace Yunah Lee in ‘The Marriage of Figaro’

Virginia Opera, The Official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia, announces the role of Countess Almaviva in their upcoming production of ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ will be sung by soprano Katherine Whyte.

Yunah Lee was previously announced in the role, but was released from the production due to an illness in the family.

Katherine Whyte has performed on opera and concert stages across her native Canada, the United States, and Europe. Ms. Whyte returned to the Metropolitan Opera earlier this season for their new production of ‘Parsifal.’ This season also includes performances of Handel’s ‘Messiah’ with the National Symphony in Washington D.C., as well as Mozart’s ‘Mass in C minor’ with the Vancouver Symphony and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the National Chorale.

‘The Marriage of Figaro’ opens Saturday, Apr. 6, 2013 at Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, Va., followed by additional performances in Norfolk, Fairfax and Richmond, Va. Tickets range from $25 to $114 and are available at www.vaopera.org.
