Virginia Opera’s Romeo and Juliet makes a triumphant return—online!
Featuring the Virginia Symphony Orchestra
After the success of our joint La Bohème broadcast last month, the Virginia Opera and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra are thrilled to announce our next opera broadcast, Romeo and Juliet, on Thursday, May 28, at 7:00 PM. Once again, the VO will present an introduction from Maestro Adam Turner prior to the beginning of the performance’s start at 7:30 PM.
Romeo and Juliet (2016) a co-production of Virginia Opera and Opera Carolina called “A beautiful production” by the Charlotte Observer.
From the original program: “A lush new production of Gounod’s classic opera, Romeo and Juliet will immerse you in sparkling duets and lovely waltzes based on the Shakespeare play of the same title. From the opening scenes when Romeo first sets eyes on Juliet, the story of true love and deception, joy and tragedy, hurtles toward the heartbreaking certainty that this story cannot end well. A classic for lovers of all ages, Romeo and Juliet reminds us that love does, indeed conquer time and space.”
The broadcast will be released live on Virginia Opera’s Youtube Channel on Thursday, May 28 at 7:00 PM. The video will be available for on-demand viewing through June 11.
