RICHMOND, Va. (September 24, 2012) – Virginia Opera artists will return to this year’s Rose Fest at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Performances will take place between 12:15 and 2:30 p.m. Admission is free for Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden members with standard admission charged to non-members.

September 5, 2012 – Virginia Opera, The Official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia, will open its 2012-13 Season with Georges Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, Va., followed by additional performances in Norfolk, Richmond and Fairfax, Va.
NORFOLK, Va. (August 15, 2012) – Virginia Opera has established The Joan B. Miller Fund to honor the life and work of Joan Barbara Miller, who served as President of Virginia Opera from 2009 through 2011 and for many years on the Opera’s Statewide Board of Directors. Miller passed away Monday. Among her many contributions to Virginia Opera, Miller was a tireless proponent of bringing preeminent conductors from around the nation and the world to lead the Company’s productions.
NORFOLK, Va. – After serving for 18 years on the Board of Directors of Virginia Opera, The Official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the title of Director Emeritus has been conferred unanimously on Mrs. Joan Barbara Miller. Mrs. Miller joined the Virginia Opera Board of Directors in 1995. She is the immediate past-president of the Statewide Board of Directors of the Virginia Opera and currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee. Mrs. Miller served as Board President from 2009 through 2011 and helped steer Virginia Opera through the first transition in artistic leadership in the company’s 38-year history.
NORFOLK, Va. – Virginia Opera is adding a fifth production to the 2012-13 schedule and will now close next season with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical Carousel. The musical will round out Virginia Opera’s 38th Season following The Pearl Fishers by Georges Bizet, Die Fledermaus by Johan Strauss II, A Streetcar Named Desire by André Previn, and The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The show is being presented by Virginia Opera in conjunction with the Virginia Arts Festival’s 2013 Season and opens Friday, May 10, 2013 at 8:00 PM at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, Virginia. Carousel will run for eight performances over two consecutive weekends in Norfolk, including performances on Friday and Saturday evenings and Saturday and Sunday matinees.
NORFOLK, Va. –Virginia Opera, The Official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia, has named its former Artistic Director, Peter Mark, Artistic Director Emeritus of the company. Mr. Mark served as Artistic Director, Music Director and Principal Conductor of Virginia Opera from 1975, shortly following Virginia Opera”s founding, until November 2010. He also served as the Opera”s first General Director from 1975 until 2000.
