Bio:
A native of Virginia, Matt Kelly, tenor, comes to the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival after completing a Master of Sacred Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Notre Dame. At Notre Dame, he conducted the Notre Dame Children’s Choir and performed regularly with the Notre Dame Vocale, Notre Dame Medieval Quartet, and OperaND. Mr. Kelly will join Virginia Opera as a Herndon Foundation Emerging Artist for the 2017-18 season. This year he sings the Evangelist in Schütz’s Weihnachtshistorie, King Solomon in the world premier of Robert Kyr’s Paradiso with Sacred Music at Notre Dame, Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with OperaND, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni with the HPAF, and is featured on a recording of “Frosty the Snowman” with Grammy Award winning trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. A performer and scholar, Mr. Kelly’s paper on the Georgian era singer-composer Michael Kelly was published in The Cupola in 2015.
