Virginia Opera’s La Bohème makes a triumphant return—online!
Featuring the Virginia Symphony Orchestra
The Virginia Opera and our partner the Virginia Symphony Orchestra are excited to announce that our 2015 VO production of Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème will be available online in its entirety on both the Virginia Opera Facebook and YouTube pages beginning April 30, 2020! The broadcast will be prefaced by a special introduction featuring the production’s conductor, Maestro Adam Turner, and its Stage Director, Kyle Lang, at 7:00 p.m. EST, with the opera itself beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST.
La Bohème—one of the most regularly performed operas in the world—is a captivating story of the passions of young Parisian bohemians seeking higher aspirations than material wealth through the pursuit of their art. In addition to being a brilliant musical accomplishment, Bohème remains a sonorous work that continues to resonate with, and inspire, modern audiences around the globe.
The Virginia Opera’s 2015 production, set in a pre-World War II France, has been critically hailed as “touching” and “passionate,” as it showcased the talents of such extraordinary cast members as Jason Slayden (tenor) as Rodolfo, Elaine Alvarez (lead soprano) as Mimí, Zulimar López-Hernández (soprano) as Musetta, and Edward Parks (baritone) as Marcello. Accompanied by the exemplary musicianship of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, La Bohème is an awe-inspiring celebration of the arts that has truly stood the test of time. This master-class in operatic perfection, directed for the stage by visionary Kyle Lang, is a must-see; do not let this opportunity pass you by!
There will be a short intermission at the conclusion of Act II, during which video interviews of the cast conducted at the time of the performance will be presented for your viewing pleasure. Once these are complete, Acts III and IV will proceed, followed by an interview with Maestro Turner to conclude the evening.
