Hailed by KUSC Los Angeles as the “next great tenor”, Brian Cheney, protégé of legendary tenor Jerry Hadley, has gained international acclaim for his portrayal of characters such as Don José in Carmen, Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca, Rodolfo in La bohème, the Duke in Rigoletto, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, and Canio in Pagliacci. “It is tenor Brian Cheney as the brave painter Cavaradossi who really blew me away. Recently Mr. Cheney performed the role of Victor Frankenstein in Frankenstein with The Angel’s Share in the Brooklyn Catacombs, the tenor solo in the Bernstein Choral Celebration with National Philharmonic at the Kennedy Center, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and Saint-Saens’ Oratorio de Noel with Cappella Cantorum, Verdi’s Requiem with Southern Illinois Symphony, as a soloist in the Three Holiday Tenors concert with NJ Festival Orchestra, in a Gala concert with the St. Johns Lattingtown Church, and in the Salute to Vienna Concerts produced by Attila Glatz Productions. He also performs Canio in Pagliacci and the tenor soloist in Pulcinella with Opera Orlando, Manrico in Il trovatore with Southern Illinois Music Festival, and as Scalia in the World Premiere of Derrick Wang’s Scalia/Ginsburg with Opera Delaware. Upcoming engagements include singing Radames in Aida with Virginia Opera, and a return to St. John’s of Lattingtown as a soloist for their annual Opera Night.

Last season, Mr. Cheney sang the title role of Werther in concert with Baltimore Concert Orchestra, Belmonte in Abduction from the Seraglio with Opera Orlando, Nicely Nicely in Guys and Dolls in Concert with New Haven Symphony, the tenor soloist in a concert entitled “An Afternoon at the Opera” with Danbury Concert Association, the tenor soloist in the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s performance of Verdi’s Requiem, sang Bach’s Cantata #140 and Haydn’s Creation with Glacier Symphony as part of their Easter Festival, the tenor soloist in a double bill of Schubert’s Mass in G minor and Gounod’s St. Cecilia Mass with Hitchcock Presbyterian Church, and as a tenor soloist in Attila Glatz Concert Productions New Year’s Concert Salute to Vienna in Quebec. He also sang the tenor solo in Handel’s Messiah at St. Marks New Canaan and performed at Carnegie Hall with DCINY in The Music of Sir Karl Jenkins concert.

Additional recent engagements include the role of Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail with Opera Piccola, Festival Opera, Southern Illinois Music Festival, and Pacific Opera Project; Don José in Carmen with Knoxville Opera, Window Symphony Orchestra, Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, and Southern Illinois Music Festival; Rodolfo in La bohème with Window Symphony Orchestra and Norwalk Symphony; Canio in Pagliacci with Asheville Lyric Opera and Heartland Opera Theatre; Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Salt Marsh Opera; Lord Byron in Ada with Center for Contemporary Opera; and Cavardossi in Tosca with Southern Illinois Music Festival and Pacific Opera Project. Having built a strong relationship with a multitude of opera companies and music festivals, Mr. Cheney also performed with Opera Naples as Don Ottavio in their production of Don Giovanni and Ismaele in Nabucco; Salt Marsh Opera as The Duke in Rigoletto and a tenor soloist for a Valentine’s Concert; at The Ocean House as the tenor soloist for a concert titled “Love Songs on the Beach” and “Broadway on the Lawn;” and with Southern Illinois Music Festival as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and as a tenor soloist for their concert “Three Tenors and More.”
